BBQ Lighting Gel

BBQ lighting gel is a quick and safe way to get your coals burning.  Unlike lighting liquid, lighting gel doesn’t splash around which makes it much safer to use.  Coat the coals in the lighting gel and then from a safe distance light the gel with a flame.

Paraffin

Paraffin is NOT suitable for BBQsWe stock a premium grade paraffin which is designed to be used in paraffin heaters, burners and lamps.  When used in a heater, or a lamp, it produces a bright flame making it great for camping or areas without electricity.

Fire Lighter Cubes

Our fire lighter cubes are non-toxic, easy to light and odourless, so no chemical taste will be added to your food when cooking.  Place the lighter cubes underneath the coals, light them with a flame, and your barbecue will be ready to use in no time.

Starting a Charcoal BBQ

  • To start a charcoal BBQ you have to give it a helping hand.
  • Add lighting gel, lighter fluid or fire lighter cubes to the charcoal.
  • Small sticks, or balls of dry newspaper also make good fire starters.
  • Ignite the charcoal from a safe distance with a long match or long lighter.
  • Spread the coals out with some tongs so your food cooks evenly.
  • When the coals are white hot you're ready to cook!

BBQ Safety

  • Never use petrol, paraffin or other flammable liquids on a BBQ.
  • Only use products specifically designed for BBQs such as lighting gel, lighting liquid or fire lighter cubes.
  • Never add more liquid fuel once the BBQ is lit.
  • Make sure the BBQ is stable and away from furniture, fences and other flammable objects.
  • Make sure children and animals are kept well away from the barbecue.
  • Although alcohol and BBQs go hand in hand, so do alcohol consumption and accidents – be careful consuming alcohol around the barbecue!
  • Keep a bucket of water or sand handy in the event of an emergency.
