Charcoal BBQ Tips

  • To light coal you’ll need a firelighter such as lighter fluid, scrunched up newspaper or a pile of small sticks.
  • Once your fire starter of choice is in the barbecue with your coals, light your fire starter and the coals will catch fire - the aim is to get the coals white hot.
  • After 20-30 minutes, once the flames have died down and the coals are white hot, you’re ready to start barbecuing.

Juniper Wood Chips

A great way to add some flavour when barbecuing is to use smoking wood chips.  Our range of Juniper Wood Chips can be used in a smoker or in any BBQ with a lid.  Wood chips burn out faster than wood chunks, so they’re best used for smaller pieces of meat.

BBQ Smoker

Smokers are a great way to take your barbecuing to the next level.  The slow cooking process ensures the meat remains juicy by locking in all the flavours.  You can buy a variety of flavoured wood chips that when placed in a smoker will infuse additional flavours into your food.

Using a Smoker

  • Begin by soaking your wood chips in water for at least an hour – we recommend overnight.
  • For extra flavour if you’re using a smoker with a water pan you can try adding fruit juice, beer, herbs or spices in the pan.
  • Then place your wood chips on pre-heated coals for immediate smoke.
  • When you add your meat don’t be tempted to check it regularly as fluctuations in temperature can occur when opening the lid.
  • Once the meat is cooked use a thermometer to make sure your meat is safe to eat.
